Anesthesia Options

Various types of anesthetic options are available to decrease the anxiety and the discomfort associated with oral surgical procedures. We offer the following methods:

Local anesthesia: “numbing” the area to be treated with injection of medication.

Intravenous anesthesia: injection of sedative/anesthetic drugs into a vein to produce an altered level of consciousness.

Intramuscular injection: If a child will not cooperate with a combination of nitrous oxide gas and local anesthesia, a sedative can be adminstered through an intramuscular injection.

Nitrous oxide: or “laughing gas” can be used to help achieve a relaxed effect, either along or in combination with one of the other techniques.
